Ministry of Interior and US DEA Visit UAS
Students at UAS had the privilege of attending an assembly held by the Ministry of Interior and the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) from the Dubai Country Office. Dr. Ayad Al Humaidan and DEA Agent Lila Rico addressed students in grades 9 – 12 on Tuesday, December 5 about Drug Awareness and Prevention. Students had the opportunity to learn how drugs affect the body and mind. The assembly included sharing awareness of what different substances could look like in the real world, systems of drug use, and signs of someone being on drugs. The aim was to make sure that students have enough information to make, “smart and wise decisions, especially as [they] transition from high school to University”, said Rico. Kevin McDowall, a physical education and health teacher, stated, “The presentation today was informative for our students because the assembly helped our students gain a greater understanding of the serious consequences that drug use presents. Also, having a DEA agent present to the school provided real life context to the material discussed in health class here at UAS.”
